Further visits have now set in my mind an image of Seahouses that I
feel is a strong one. It is open to some re-working but the essentials
are there. It is a place that constantly reinvents itself, that is
not to say that it doesn't know what it is necessarily but that a
strong part of its character is this robustness that allows it to
embrace new fashions new ideas; it is a place of entrepreneurs. Historically
this has manifested in the town being one of the earliest to get
electric lighting and, of course, just look at the progression through
trades and industries as they ebb and flow.
I talk of Seahouses as a singular entity but of course it is made up of individuals, every town is made up of individuals that come together in interest groups or particular neighbourhoods. There are scales of representation needed but this project is all about Seahouses' outward appearance; to those over the burn. So, to make progress with a project, there is a need to average out the quirks and heighten group identity. Maybe this is all part of the human obsession to bring order to things and to fit them in to tidy boxes. Or, as I say, maybe it is just a means to an end.
