Eastside, Birmingham
MADE internship

The MADE initiative was created to provide artists with an understanding of working within a regeneration context. The scheme was based in Eastside, Birmingham, and saw four artists paired with host organisations that have an interest in the redevelopment of the area. The pairings varied in their direction, collaborative commitment, and level of success.

Starting brightly enough with invitations to join pre-planning meetings in London my placement with an international investment company slowly disintegrated. The meetings had provided a valuable insight into this early phase of property development, and I used the site and its situation as my project focus. I made much research into the history of the site, of which there was plenty, and I began to look at analogies for the masterplanning phase.
