This is a hidden
section of a hidden department. Even pharmacy staff often don't have an
awareness of what goes on here - the staff talk to no doctors and no patients.
The work just has to happen, and it is only if it doesn't that this area
gets noticed!
There is a rapid turnover of stock with only a maximum of 16 days worth in
the department at any time. On one level all stock is treated the same
(the stationery and the drugs), but there is also an awareness of what could
be life-threatening if supplies run low. Again this is another small, unnoticed
but vital part of the hospital organism.
