This was my first full visit to spend time in the department. In the morning Israr Baig kindly spent some time explaining his work as a clinical pharmacist. He then took me up to the renal ward where he guided me through the sort of tasks that he undertakes daily.

This was a sharp learning curve for me with facts and figures coming at me and in to my notebook thick and fast. It is very evident that the NHS, and this hospital in particular, is keen to share its knowledge and experience (despite the fact that as the government would have it in their league tables these hospitals are in competition). As with so many areas of life pharmacy has its specialist language and acronyms. Maybe I should compile a lexicon of pharmacyspeak.
